“When I first read Louise Glück’s poetry collection Faithful and Virtuous Night (2014), it made no impression on me whatsoever. The following summer, when it was recommended to me again, I decided to respond to each of the poems by writing a poem of my own so that I could understand it better. With each poem I wrote, I became more and more captivated by the imagery and emotions that Glück evoked. Now, I wonder how I could have ever read the poems with such casual indifference.”

In the press

of bodies

I rushed upwards

to erupt

onto the deck

cheer the world

splitting along the blade

of the horizon

What I mean to say is:

how heavy it was

when your circling

sky finally

covered over me

How light
